Seems like I only remember to post to this weblog whenever I get gout attacks... :(
My doctor prescribed me with a 30-day course of allopurinol at 300mg per day and I began the course last week Monday (31 March 2003). After several days, I get an acute attack (again!) yesterday (7 Apr).
After doing some more research (and I always do a little more research at each attack), I found that I was supposed to be also prescribed with Colchicine to prevent the onset of acute attacks that usually accompany the commencement of Allopurinol courses. Also, some references recommends to start with 100mg of Allopurinol per day, so it really puzzles me why I start with 300mg.
What can I do? I have tried some home remedies too, but it is too early to see any effects.
Anyway, all I know is tonight I went to bed and had to wake up 30 minutes later to log on again to research whether I can take Colchicine together with Allopurinol. Interesting fact that I found out though, is that the big toe joint is known as the first metatarsophalangeal (read this as meta-tarso-phalange-al) or MTP joint. Anyway all those medical terms really made me a litte dizzy. Now I confirm that my decision in my teens to choose computers instead of biology was a right one.....
Back to my research.....
