Some Equipment

This a list of some of the things I'm bringing on this trip. Once I'm sailing, I'll try and post some comments on how useful these different things were.

Solar Power!

Unisolar USF 32: much has been said about the usefulness of a solar panel, and, well, I want to find out for myself. I've heard many times that their performance leaves a lot to be desired, but since I'm planning to use very little electricity (mostly navigation instruments, digital camera and computer), I've a feeling it should significantly diminish the amount of time I have to run the engine to fill up the batteries... and I so love silence! Here is a picture:

Sunguard: this little piece of gear fits between the solar panel and the battery. It regulates the charge of the battery, and makes sure the battery does not get overcharged. I've been told it might not be needed on batteries the size of those I'll be using (about 100 AmpH), but thought I would play it safe...!

Safety Equipment

ACR Mini B2 Class B Personal EPIRB: This device is used only in case of emergency, when things go awefully wrong. The device emits an emergency signal that both planes and satellites can pick-up within a matter of minutes, and hopefully come for help. Clearly not planning on using it, but better be safe than sorry. Here is a picture of it:
