Editing Symbols

Many newbies to HTML, XML, Radio, etc. are sometimes annoyed when they key in some symbol in the midst of their text, then their e-mail software, Browser, Weblogger, or whatever turns it into some unwanted garbage.  Then when I cut and paste from someone else, such as via Radio News Aggregation, I sometimes cannot turn off the underline linking, or right justification, that someone has added, when I try to post something else right after their links or whatever, while using WYSISWG (except what I want is not what I get).  So this is a continuing process for all of us to learn how to cope better.

Alison posted some relevant stuff on her weblog this weekend. Take a look at

Thanks to some of Al's voluminous links, I found the solution. I had previously tried what the Magical Fishmonger Alison had written , and sad to say, it didn't work. It may be a Mac IE thing. What happens was it just reproduced the code in the text of my post, i.e. &39; ( or whatever it was, I don't have it open in front of me.) The fix is this: I have to type a back slash in front of each apostrophe or quotation mark. That tells Radio something geeky to leave them alone.
