The American Hebrew Academy announced today that it has entered into a global settlement agreement resolving all litigation which had been brought against the Academy in 2003 by three Japanese Insurance Companies.  While the terms of the settlement are confidential, the Academy’s Board Chairman, M. D. Sabbah, stated that “the settlement provides a significant financial endowment, quiets all pending claims upon the Academy and its assets, and helps assure everyone as to the strength and viability of the Academy for generations to come.”  Mr. Sabbah further stated that “the Academy is most pleased to have resolved this litigation and now looks forward to implementing a long term strategic plan for the future growth and development of the Academy which had previously been suspended.  I want everyone in the local Greensboro community and the greater Jewish world at large to know that with the assistance of our Board of Trustees, the Academy’s viability is no longer in question.”

The American Hebrew Academy, the nation’s only independent pluralistic Jewish boarding school, opened in 2001 and currently enrolls 134 students from 26 states and 5 countries.  The mission of the American Hebrew Academy is to provide a coeducational college preparatory program and Jewish secondary education to intellectually motivated and academically able students in grades nine through twelve who are prepared to engage in the Academy’s dual curriculum while living in an environment that nurtures and challenges every student.  The American Hebrew Academy provides an enriching community in which students learn about the culture and values of the Jewish people while preparing for leadership positions for the betterment of the world, continuity of the Jewish people and enrollment at the country’s finest universities and colleges.
