Current Projects JabberCheckers The title gives this one away. This project is a little undertaking that spawned from the knowledge I gained developing Insite (as described below). JabberCheckers is a multiplayer, Flash-based checkers game that uses the Jabber protocol as a transport to send play information between players. In addition to the ability to chat with your opponent, the Jabber protocol will allow interfacing with other IM transports. This means that players can instant message their friends on AIM, MSN, Yahoo! and others from the same Flash interface. Hopefully this project will lead to additional game offerings in a sort of multiplayer, Flash-based gaming environment. The primary goal, however, is to showcase the possibilites of Flash and Jabber integration (and to learn a little in the process). Insite Insite is a web-based conferencing and whiteboarding program. It is written using a Macromedia Flash interface with the Jabber protocol. Thanks to Yannick Connan's JabberFlash API this process has been relatively painless. The current project state is "very alpha." I'll post a demo version as soon as possible. Because of the Macromedia security sandbox, this program can only connect to a local Jabber server if running within a browser. The standalone projectors are not affected, but jabber.org does not seem to accept Flash socket connections. |
