Number 1 Geodog!
Hey, I finally made it into Google. Number 1 Geodog!
I guess it helps to have a funny nickname and domain name. From what I have read, it seems like this is a rite of passage for Webloggers. Silly, but there it is.

Why the FBI needs more powers ... NOT
Salon has a story out, The dragnet comes up empty, pointing out that:
In the aftermath of Sept. 11, law enforcement agents detained more than 1,000 people, mostly Middle Eastern-born men. Some were held for weeks without an attorney. Some were virtually convicted in the press. But none have been implicated in terrorism.
I don't think that our intelligence failures can be blamed on our police not having enough power -- I think that they can be blamed on -- lack of intelligence.

That good old East Coast summer experience
I'm back East for my annual summer trip. Yesterday I went for a hike and had that good old East Coast summer experience -- my pores opened up, sweat poured out, and ... puddled. The air was so moist that it didn't evaporate -- I just got wetter and wetter. I don't actually dislike it, at least not when there is a shower available at the end of the hike. I just realized how much of a Californian I have become -- I was so surprised.
In the end it was a nice hike -- saw some baby bunnies, some blue birds (either Indigo Buntings or Eastern Bluebirds, couldn't tell which), a mockingbird and a catbird.

Spell checking Web logs?
I am a lousy typist in that I make lots of errors, and I tend not to stop to correct them. I love Microsoft Word's autocorrect feature. One thing I haven't liked about Radio is that my posts tend to be full of typos. I've been looking around for a tool to help me spell check Radio entries. The first program that I tried was something called IeSpell. It added an entry to the tools section of IE, but it doesn't seem to recognize Radio's text entry box. Then I tried something that Russ Lipton suggested, MicroSpell. The program seems really powerful if you are a word lover. However, it has a bizarre interface, and doesn't correct as you type. You have to do the Scott Johnson trick of copying text to the clipboard, then spell checking it, then copying it back from the clipboard, all in source mode. That, plus the fact that it doesn't seem to work with my favorite text editor, NoteTab Pro, make it unlikely that I will keep it long term. It is a little too tedious. I'll keep if for now, at least until I find something better.
If anybody has other suggestions of better tools for spell checking weblogs, please let me know.
