MOVIE - THE IN-LAWS - Review Rating $$$$$ $$ (OUT OF 10)
STARRING - Michael Douglas, Albert Brooks, Robin Tunney, Candice Bergen
David Suchet & Ryan Reynolds.
DIRECTOR - Andrew Fleming (Dick, The Craft, Threesome)
A remake of the 1979 comedy, of the same name, that originally starred Alan Arkin and Peter Falk.
A timid foot doctor gets caught up in international intrigue when his daughter gets engaged to the son of a rogue CIA agent.
This is a comedy without pretense that is played for laughs throughout. There is no hidden agenda or moralizing in The In-laws. The story is preposterous but not stupid. The laughs range from silly to fairly humorous and will likely appeal more to an older audience's sensibilities.
Albert Brooks, who is also the voice of Marlin (Nemo's father) in Finding Nemo, does an excellent job of portraying the foot doctor who is afraid of his own shadow but who rises to the occasion to protect his family. Douglas, not known for his comedic talents, plays the rogue CIA agent with just the right amount of levity. It was also nice to see Candice Bergen (Murphy Brown) back in action.
If your looking for a few harmless laughs then The In-Laws will do the trick.
Running time - 98 minutes
