MOVIE - THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST Review Rating $$$$$ $$$$ (OUT OF 10)

Colin Firth, Rupert Everett, Francis O'Connor, Reese Witherspoon, Judy Dench and Tom Wilkinson (In The Bedroom) star in this comedy, set in the 1890's, that is an excellent adaption of Oscar Wilde's famous play.

All of the actors involved give excellent performances, including Ms. Witherspoon, who is not out of her leaugue here. The supporting cast is also a delight.

Watching this movie was a pleasure and a delight. The mostly middle aged audience, seeking a refuge from today's blockbusters, laughed in unison throughout this whimiscal farce.

BTW, there is a running gag in this approximately 90 minute movie, about the plethora of endless 3 volume novels (read 3 hour movies). I am gratified to know that Oscar Wilde and myself share the belief that a good story doesn't have to be 3 volumes long.

Miramax, is to be commended for still occassionally releasing a movie such as this. It won't be in theatres very long, no doubt, and I highly recommend getting to see it before it disappears. It is both enjoyable in of itself and as an example of what a good movie is supposed to be like.
