MOVIE - GHOSTS OF THE ABYSS - Review Rating $$$$$ $$$ (OUT OF 10)

NARRATED BY - BILL PAXTON

DIRECTOR - James Cameron (Titanic, The Abyss, Aliens, True Lies)

Ghosts of the Abyss is a 3-D IMAX film that documents the exploration of the wreck of the Titanic.

If you have even the remotest interest in history or technology than Ghosts of the Abyss is a fascinating film. The story of the Titanic is well known but seeing it in its final resting place 2.5 miles below the ocean's surface makes the story that much more real.

Using a combination of actual footage, recreations and historical fact, James Cameron brings the Titanic back to life. It is remarkable to see how much of the ship is still intact after all this time. In a testament to the quality of workmanship, that helped to make the Titanic the most luxurious ship to ever sail, numerous stained glass windows and other artifacts survived despite its dramatic plunge to the ocean's floor.

Much of the technology required to make this film was made specifically for this expedition. The rovers, essential to the success of the misasion, truly take on human characteristics. You will be rooting for them by the end of the film.

Ghosts of the Abyss while reverential never gets overly sentimental. That being said it is almost impossible not to be moved by this eerie testament to man's false bravodo. The historical lessons derived from the ill-fated voyage should not be forgotten.

Ghosts of the Abyss is a history lesson that children of the 21st century can appreciate. I recommend taking the whole family.

Running time - 59 minutes
