MOVIE - I, ROBOT - Review Rating $$$$$ $$$1/2 (OUT OF 10)
STARRING - Will Smith (Spooner), Bridget Moynahan (Dr. Susan Calvin),
Bruce Greenwood (Lance Robertson), Chi McBride (Lt. John Bergin), Alan Tudyk (Sonny), James Cromwell (Dr. Alfred Lanning), Peter Shinkoda (Chin) & Emily Tennant (Sarah Lloyd).
DIRECTOR - Alex Proyas (Garage Days, Dark City & The Crow)
Suggested by a collection of short stories by Isaac Asimov.
I, Robot successfully combines a variety of themes to produce one of the best films of this year's crop of summer blockbusters. The script cleverly balances the competing elements of Sci-Fi allegory, a murder mystery and action in such a way as to keep fans of each entertained and allow the audience, if they wish, to comtemplate the movie's broader implications.
Some might consider I, Robot to be Asimov "lite" but, in my opinion, its refreshing to see a blockbuster that at least attempts to be faithful to its source material and is as concerned about the message as the marketing. The film has more non-artificial intelligence than the previews suggest.
I highly recommend I, Robot.
Running time - 115 minutes
