It's interesting to see the SourceForge stats for OpenSymphony. 10,000 page views in a single day, which must be some sort of record for us! Clearly, more frequent releases and posts to major sites such as TheServerSide and JavaLobby help a great deal.

Hi there! I'm a <edit>moderately well-</edit>paid IBM consultant!

To get Websphere 4.0 running, you'll need a good mid-range Linux (or some other OS if you're heathen) box, and a copy of the appropriate Redbook. Redbooks are way cool - this one is about two inches thick when you print it out, and has step-by-step installation/deployment instructions.

Oh, and you'll also need a rather significant five- or six- figure sum to pay for the software licenses.

Hi Charles! I'm going to be attacking WebSphere after I finish WebLogic integration (sooo close) and JRun (almost there too). I've heard the IBM Redbooks are pretty good. When I downloaded WAS 4.0 and tried installing, I was almost immediately shocked to death by the sheer complexity of the thign. I am of the opinion that app servers should be simple, small devices that act purely as enablers. Even WebLogic is pretty straight forward. I found WebSphere and HPAS (which may not live much longer) to be bloated.

A thread has been raging on TheServerSide about Why I Hate Entity Beans. Somewhat related to my talk the other day, which Mike now has online. Haven't read through the whole thread, but I bet there are some good ideas (and bad ones!) in there.

Nice, a solar eclipse is going to happen next Monday, and this arcticle says it's best viewed in San Diego (my home!)

Damn, that's a big fish

Update: Damn, another one! I love Yahoo's most popular stories and pictures...

Update: spoke to the guys at TheMindElectric today and it was confirmed that GLUE can't be included in OSWorkflow. Oh well, I'll write hooks in to it and then let the user download GLUE or use the included Apache Axis (not as bad a Apache SOAP, but still not as good as GLUE). I think this means that a 1.0 final release is around the corner. I also found a guy today that is writing a workflow engine, OBE. I introduced myself today and I think we're going to start sharing some ideas, as he's got quite a bit done himself. Very cool stuff though!
