Helpful Photoshop Sites

Adobe Studio: Helpful tips and tricks from the source.

Laurie McCanna's complete list of Photoshop tutorials: While these tips haven't really been kept up as new versions of Photoshop have been released, most that are here are interesting and still usable.

Photoshop Tips & Tricks: This is a good and often-updated site with many articles.

Eye Wire Photoshop Tips: More good tips...

Jay Arraich's Photohop Tips: There is a ton of stuff here for both Photoshop and Photoshop Elements and all for beginners. This site not only gives tricks, but explains well. Very educational.

Designs by Mark: This site has some tips and effects that are a little different than those that you can find everywhere else.

Stewart Dean's Photoshop Tips: Type effects and other tricks.

Workshop Description

The recent popularity in digital photography has spurred many amateur photographers to closet their traditional 35mm cameras for more cost-effective digital models. This workshop will explore how to take those already-wonderful photos and take them to the next step with Adobe Photoshop. Participants will learn many editing/correcting techniques and have in-class time to work on their own photos. This is an intermediate-level course. A basic knowledge of Photoshop will be assumed.

More Information

Adobe Photoshop is a high-end image editing program and is not an application for those that simply want to "dabble" or make small changes to their photos. For those users, there is software such as Photoshop Elements, HBImageProcessor, and iPhoto (among others). This workshop will assume that participants have already found those applications rather insufficient for thier purposes and want to turn their photographs into art.

Purchasing Photoshop

Education price for Adobe Photoshop is $298.95. It can be purchased from online retailers such as Software Express or in town at Nebraska Bookstore. This is a pretty good discount, considering the retail cost of Photoshop is $609. Again, Photoshop is serious software and is priced accordingly. We do not have a district license, nor do we have any plans to acquire one.

This Sounds Like More Than I Was After...

If you are looking for software that will do more than your basic cropping and resizing, but don't need the brute power that Photoshop provides you may wish to take a look at Linda Dickeson's Photoshop Elements class that will be offered beginning February 17. As a Photoshop user I was stunned by how much of Photoshop's functionality was in Elements, and for a fraction of the cost. I think a user can have it for around $20... I'm checking with Jeff Ochsner to get an exact price.

All right!! If you already have a bunch of digital photos, you may wish to gather them together somehow so that you can bring them in. I would suggest putting them somewhere on the internet that you can access them OR put them on a zip disk (about half of our lab computers have zip drives on them). While it's not required, I would highly reccommend the following book that I will be using as a basis for what cover during the class: The Art of Photoshop by Daniel Giordan.
