Museos de concreto y arte virtual

Nancy White, anfitriona de la conferencia Comunidades Virtuales en The Well y jurado del Cyborg Festival, nos envía este vínculo. Es un reportaje bien interesante sobre los esfuerzos de dos instituciones norteamericanas que han acometido la empresa de aceptar la responsabilidad “museística” de organizar, comisionar, exhibir y preservar el arte digital. El artículo corresponde a una sección del New York Times y hay que subscribirse, pero la operación es gratuita.

Odalis Valdivieso´s “Intersection”

Odalis Valdivieso, a Venezuelan artist in the Primer Cyborg Festival, will present today her work, together with artist Patrick Collier, at Locust Project. Odalis will install an immense site-specific wall drawing. Assisted by a comnputer, she will simplify a photograph of a junkyard into a schematic collision of forms.

Vidéo Femmes
(Dedicated to the memory of Alexandra Meijer-Werner), an exhibition curated by Venezuelan artist Yucef Mehri, who is also participating in the Cyborg Festival, will open Nov. 10 @ MOCA at California Plaza. Mehri attempts to expose an unexplored vision of Venezuelan video art practice, following the traces of three generations of women artists that have established a recognized and valued body of works.

Most of the videos presented here are works created specially for this exhibition. Participants are Nela Ochoa (1953), Nan Gonzáles (1956), Conny Viera (1964), Diana López (1968), Odalis Valdivieso (1969), and Alexandra Meijer-Werner (1972-2002) who sadly died in June of this year on an airplane accident.
