Iditarod Start
There was going to be a 10:00 picture to mark the official starting time but there was even less activity on the street.
The starting line is actually 3 blocks into the distance.
Note the no snow any place but the center lane of Fourth Avenue.
It's also interesting to me how few spectators are on the street.
Two years ago L. and I stayed at the Captain Cook and had a room that overlooked Fourth Avenue. It was great. The streets and sidewalks were packed with snow that had piled up for five months, the streets were crowded with people---we could scarcely elbow our way along---the right and left lanes of Fourth Avenue were filled with trucks, sleds, handlers, and barking dog teams. The temperature was about 10 degrees F not the 30 degrees it is today.
Today proves that the Iditarod belongs as a Winter event, not as an April happening.
