This mornings discovery... The publishing house O'Reilly maintains this Web Services Development Center which has Jon Udell as a contributing editor. This appears to be a good resource for learning about and keeping up with emerging web services. Jon also writes for Info World.

I'm currently doing an investigation into the opportunities for web services utilizing the Macromedia MX technology suite. With Flash Player 6 penetration being what it is and Cold Fusion plus Flash MX facilitating next generation Internet application development, I believe there are great opportunities at hand. I'll continue to post related findings.

Jeremy Allaire, the CTO and Macromedia provides a great analysis on ASP's, Web Services and the next generation of Application Services which are not just plumbing, but the end to end product. It's amazing how some technology seems to gain momentum without stakes in the ground. It appears that MX (Flash and Cold Fusion) can provide all the pieces which enable true utility for those needing to implement and deploy network service products.

If you rent videos regularly and you're not using Netflix you might want to check it out. I've become a commited customer for many reasons... no late fee's, no driving back and forth from the video store, i always have a couple DVD's I've selected waiting for me in my living room, huge selection and I can return the DVD's whenever I choose... It's not for everyone, but it's a great service in my opinion.

Sergey Brin, co-founder of Google has this great quote about the application of meta-data being machine generated and not human. We definitely need technology and protocols for the automation of meta-data and semantic information creation. "I've always thought that we need to find more and better ways to capture metadata when we communicate. But I've got to admit that the filtering and folders I use in Outlook require more effort than most people will ever be willing to invest. There may yet turn out to be ways to make writing the semantic Web easy and natural. "

I'm very interested in the prospect of dynamic and multi-media weblogs. Marc Cantor has been experimenting with multi-media conversations and a couple weblogs are being deployed in Flash, which enables much more dynamic blogging. I would like to believe that we'll see much more promising blogs in these forms in the future.

Yesterday, I heard Congressional Representative Nancy Pelosi express her views on Iraq policy after Bush gave his address to the nation. She conveyed many points which I think are important and I tend to agree with. She has seen no compelling evidence that Iraq will or has contributed to terror directed at the U.S. She also indicated that the policy of containment has been effective for the past eleven years. She could not understand the timing of the current initiative and believes that we should only act when we have evidence. A pre-emptive attack on Iraq could set a poor international precedent for other nations who have similar concerns with their neighbors or enemies. I can't help but to believe that our attacking Iraq could create more problems than it solves...

I'm very interested in determining how to marry Radio with the MX Rich Application Environment and then open the doors on web-broadcasting. I'm seeing a trend toward this in the MX community of weblogs, but it's early.

I'm starting to think that Gore has it right. The attention to the Iraq question seems to be having a strong effect on the upcoming elections and is drawing attention from the anemic economy. NY Times Reports
