Slashdot | eBay Customers Targetted by Credit Card Scam.

hether writes "Customers of the auction site eBay have been targeted by a site called ebayupdates.com. The site attempts to steal credit card details from eBay's 55 million customers. The SANS Institute Internet Storm Center issued the warning on this one. Info about the scam can be found on the BBC site, CNN, CNet, vnunet, and more. Funny enough there's no mention of this on the eBay site..."

Doorways into the past

Old things interest me. Especially architectural things. I've always loved finding old abandoned houses, peeking through broken windows to see what's inside. We came across these jewels tucked away in a box in the shed behind our house. There's a set of six matching doorplates and a pretty cast doorknob set in the original lock with the key still intact. Scott cleaned up them all up in a wash of vinegar, and we decided to list them on Ebay. Maybe someone restoring an old home could use them. I'd love to do that someday.....buy an old Victorian home and restore it to its original beauty and grace. When I win the lottery, that will be one of the first things I do....

Tiny tools

I have three very old handmade miniature tools that I've put up for sale on Ebay this weekend. The little shovel & pick were hand carved, and such a neat folkart piece. It's very old, and made from oak I think. If I remember right, I picked all three of them up at an estate sale years ago. Haven't a clue when they were made or even if by the same person, but I think they're great. Maybe an antique tool collector will be interested. We'll see. I've linked the pics to the auctions if anyone wants more info. The other sales are going well so far. I've managed to pick up enough extra cash to pay the car insurance and had money to spend on Christmas presents yesterday!

Flow Blue & New Haven Clock

I've listed two really nice antiques on Ebay over the weekend. The first is a Flow Blue wash bowl which dates back to the 1800's and was made by T. Rathbone & Co. There originally was a pitcher with it, but one of the kittens (whose name will not be revealed at this time to protect her "innocence") knocked it over and smashed it into smithereens. We've set the wash bowl high atop a chest so she can't get to it before it sells. Kitten-proofing a home is alot like child-proofing, only worse!

The clock is very old. Probably dates to the late 1800's - early 1900's. The face is a little rough, and I never had the key to wind it, but everything else looks intact. It was manufactured by the New Haven Clock Co., and is an 8-day clock. My other clock sold for more than I expected, so I have high hopes for this one, too. Received an email this morning from the lady who bought the Trixie Belden books. She got them in the mail yesterday and said they were even better than she'd expected. I always try my best to describe the things I sell. Sometimes there are flaws that don't show up in pictures, and I want the buyer to know exactly what they're bidding on. So far, everyone has been pleased, and that makes me feel good :)

Here are a few of the "I have to have that" items currently listed (Scott takes such beautiful pictures!) Each picture is a link to its own auction. I'm actually suprised no one has made a move on the cedar icecream bucket. It really is nice, if you're into rustic collectibles. The saltbox is sooo pretty; the glaze is opalescent, and it was made in Czechoslovakia. I love the Sadler teapot. Not too fancy, beautiful curves (kinda like me...), and little pastel flowers. The Heisey glass basket is very elegant, and I love how Scott photographed it (atop the comforter on our four-post bed). Wish me luck on the auctions......the car insurance is due!

Before sunrise

I got up before the sun. The last thing I said before falling asleep (quite contently, I might add) was "I'm sleeping late in the morning." There was a bet. I lost. I just cannot sleep "late" (MY translation 8:00 AM) even on weekends. Scott bet I'd sleep till 7:00. I awoke at 6:03. Brewed a fresh pot of coffee, fed the kittens (o joy! canned food again today! - I am spoiling them...), checked email and the auctions.

The day couldn't have started on a better note. A glass basket I listed reached the reserve; there are bids on the Trixie Belden and Tammy books; a piece of Westmoreland glass finally got a bid; and the beer sign is holding steady at $12.38. The rooster & hen print has been at least looked at (and has probably become quite a conversation piece ::wink::), and we got positive feedback from the buyer of the antique clock. Plus! we achieved a gold Ebay star by our name!

To top the morning off, Sugarfused has been added to The Presurfer's favourite blogs! I left a thank-you note, and browsed the site for a bit, while enjoying my early morning brew. Quite a nice suprise, and very much appreciated...

Antique photography

I have a very old leather-bound photo album from the 1800's. Most of the photos were taken in a studio in New York, and there are names scrawled across the tops identifying the subjects. They seem to all belong to one family. I purchased the album at a flea market in Nashville about three years ago, and the binding has come apart, but the pictures are genuinely lovely. This particular photograph is of four children - 3 girls and a boy (bless his heart, he's dressed as a girl - but that was common in those days). The childrens' names are Ethel, Edna, Mabelle and Leonard Russell and is dated September 1, 1898.

I do so love Saturday mornings! And if I weren't so pissed at Carrie's dad right now, I might be able to enjoy it. Long story - let it suffice to say that any time I've ever asked for help from him financially, he's been less than cooperative.

Which leads me to this: I have new auction items for sale! Yippeeee!! And to start the day off with a smile, I'm posting a picture of a framed print (yes that's real chicken wire) I received as a Christmas gift a few years back. It's been lying in the attic accumulating cobwebs since the day after Christmas, and I just know someone would be proud to hang it their home. Ever wished you lived on a farm? Love the smell of hay, but live in "the big city"? Maybe you're a collector of roosters. Maybe you just enjoy the sight of baby chicks. Raised on a farm as a child and have fond memories of freshly collected eggs from the henhouse? Need a unique Christmas gift for that certain someone who has everything? Old beer advertising sign

Ok, last post for the evening folks as I need to get supper started. We found this old tin advertising sign out in the shed yesterday. Falls City Brewing Company used to be located in Louisville, KY. Does anyone remember drinking this stuff? If you're a collector, you might want to check it out at my auction - just point that lil mouse HERE. Ya'll southern interior decorators NEED it !! ::wink::

I listed the Trixie Belden books on Ebay yesterday along with Tammy's Hollywood Adventure. Even as a child I was an avid reader. Who knows? Maybe someone out there collects these things. There were a few others listed, so maybe I'll get a little something for them. I especially love the Tammy book. She's dressed in a blue majorette uniform holding her shiny baton. How does she go from the football field to Hollywood? Buy the book and find out!

Four lovely pitchers all waiting for new homes :) If you would like more information, you can find them on Ebay. I've had a pitcher collection for years. There's just something so endearing about them. But I've run out of room, and several have ended up hidden away in cupboards. They're much too pretty to be out of sight.

OId clock finds new home

Since I just lost completely EVERYTHING I just wrote in my blog a moment ago, I'll not bore anyone with my drivel and just give my Ebay update. The clock sold!! For more than the reserve!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! Also, I have this old telephone listed that's been bid on 4 times already. Been in the attic for years...never thought it was worth more than $5 or $10, but the bidding is up to $18.50 so far. Who'd have thought?? If you happen to be interested, here's where to find it. Does this photo bring back memories for anyone? Wish me luck on the other listings....I'll post pics later.

Antique Kitchen Clock with Eclipse Pendulum

A piece I'm currently selling on Ebay...isn't this a beautiful clock? If anyone out there is interested, here's the item number 733564922. The pendulum is an "Eclipse" with a lovely red star inside. The pictures turned out great don't you think? Purinton Pottery

My projected success on eBay proved to be a major disappointment :(

I listed two pieces of Purinton pottery which never received a single bid, and I got a little pissed about it so I haven't listed anything else...I keep looking around the house to see if there are other items that might sell, and I might try a couple of other pieces of pottery, but I'm beginning to think the timing is bad. These are the Purinton items I tried selling - and if anyone out there collects, these are very good quality. (kitten not included !)

Etruscan Majolica

Just sold my first item on Ebay - a rare piece of majolica manufactured by Griffin, Smith & Bell in the late 1800's. Wasn't able to get the reserve price on it, but made a healthy profit nontheless. Although I never collected majolica (too pricey), I do have one other piece. It's not marked, but it's in good condition, so I may try selling it as well. Here's the little creamer I sold this week - hope the buyer is pleased with it !
