Google Grabs Urchin
Don't wake the sleeping giants. If Microsoft or Google take a serious interest in web analytics, the existing vendors are toast.
WebTrends and NetIQ Part Company
WebTrends is a solo act again. Some say this will make them more nimble. Will this really make them more responsive to customers? Improve technical support? Fix problems with basic functionality? Although I hope so, I'm not holding my breath.

Congratulations to the iPodder Team
Podcasting (podcatching) tool updated. I haven't talked about podcasting much because "it just works" and has been part of my daily life since last September. Yet another useful tool that was an instant "Bing!" experience when I tried it.
We released the new 2.0 version of iPodder today. Man, it feels good to ship. Enjoy, everybuddeh!

Update on Laura Winterbottom
Received the following email:
The family has asked that people not speak to reporters, as they are only acting like they just want to learn more about Laura in order to squeeze out more juicy bits from people. The family has asked if you knew Laura and are contacted by reporters to only say "no comment." Please do not help the reporters out ... they are relentless and it is against the family's wishes.

Numb Over Laura Winterbottom Murder
Kept up appearances at work today, but very hard to concentrate. Helped Maria with initial research to locate a missing relative for the upcoming funeral.
I was originally scheduled to pick up Maria at the airport this evening. Due to her re-scheduled flight, I briefly considered attending a Happy Hour gathering with folks from work. The same situation in which Laura was last seen alive by her friends. Seeing the young women at work today, I could only think of Laura and of my own daughter. I realized I could not attend the after-work gathering and still pretend nothing was wrong. I have not mentioned this tragedy to my co-workers. Some may read this site, but these back-dated posts won't be released until the weekend.
Instead, I tried to dull the pain of Laura Winterbottom's murder by drinking alone at home. As you might expect, that didn't help.

Received 1.3 inches of rain while we were gone. This last vacation day disappeared with various catchup items.
New York, Day 4
Michael (John's younger son from first marriage) came down to Anthony's house for an hour before we left for New York City.
Trip to Arthur Avenue in North Bronx; "Little Italy in the Bronx." A caravan of 3 cars made the drive more interesting. Joe, Karen, Bryan, Kate, Bruce, Maria, Crystal, Nate, Katie, and boyfriend Steve. Walked around about 45 minutes buying pastries etc, followed by dinner at Marios.
After returning home, showed pictures from our Hawaii cruise on my laptop. We all split up and retired back to JoAnn and Ned's and to Joe and Karen's for the night.
New York, Day 3
Today we celebrated my father-in-law Tony's 90th birthday with a surprise party. Most of us gathered to set up tables and decorate in the morning, then adjourned to get ourselves ready. Guests began arriving at 2:00, with the guest of honor arriving at 2:30 for the surprise. I had not seen many of these folks since Maria and I were married 29 years ago.
After the party, cleanup and packing of the leftover food was done by 7:30. Back at Maria's we caught the end of a James Bond movie with Halle Berry. Joe and Karen left for another surprise party, this one hosted by Jeff for his wife Robin's 50th birthday.
New York, Day 2
Dropped Bryan and Kate at the train station this morning. John and Gabe are coming from Boston to spend the day in New York City with them.
Took photos of former residences and a few other area in town. Bought flowers and wine for the birthday party tomorrow.
Picked up Crystal and Nate at the airport. Maria, Crystal, and Nate will stay with Maria's cousin JoAnn and her husband Ned.
Joe and I picked up Bryan and Kate at train station late at night. Side trip with them to Joe's work for bagel run. In bed by midnight.
New York, Day 1
Bryan, Kate, and I flew to Westchester County airport in White Plains. On final approach, the view of many large wooded estates covered in snow was beautiful. The three of us will stay with Joe and Karen.
MINI Cooper
Bryan placed his order for mid-April delivery of a MINI Cooper. Blue exterior, black top. This will be his first new car, leaving behind the Toyota Corolla that served him well.
Hillside Wall and Rosemary Plants
Nate and his brother have the first hillside garden wall assembled.
Talked to Camie about her wonderful rows of rosemary plantings on the hillside in the engineered fill.
Maria Creates Base Camp in New York
Maria left for New York to prep for her Dad's upcoming surprise party, celebrating his 90th birthday. The rest of us will join her over the next few days.
