Q: I've been trying to find out information about lost friends, family, and classmates. But when I go looking for a people search engine on the Web, I keep getting these sites that want to tell you the bare minimum and then charge for additional information or a background check. Where can I get a good and free search engine for people of my past? All I want is an address or a phone number.

A: This is actually a fun project! You might be curious how your old friend from high school is doing, or maybe you would just get pleasure out of calling them up and telling them that you turned out to be more successful than they did? Ah, well ... to each his own! As you can imagine, old faithful (the Internet) contains the tools to carry out this task. It sounds like you have already seen services such as Classmates. To be honest, the information that you are able to obtain through these sites is a little unnerving. By providing minimal details, I was able to successfully find the addresses and phone numbers of several of my friends.
