It's Back in 3D!

One of my favorite DOS games, Scorched Earth, has made a return and now it's 3D! Not only that, it also supports Internet and LAN play.

Blogging

Haven't been blogging much recently. I just haven't had the time. Some deadlines at work combined with the holiday season have kept me away from the computer at home. However, as I spend a little time reading through the items in my news aggregator, I realize I miss posting interesting tidbits on life and technology.

Of course, my new laptop (with my new wireless capability) has kept me a little occupied too! :) I suppose if I get Radio transferred over there, my updates might be more frequent. Of course, if I'd set aside some time to complete my transition to MoveableType, I could get to my blog anytime.

My wireless router is another reason I haven't had access to my blog remotely. First off, setup was a breeze. In fact, I swapped out the Linksys router so quickly and easily, I totally forgot to make note of what ports I had opened up. I spent some time this weekend getting that all squared away. If you purchase a DLink wireless router, make sure you download the latest firmware! I could not get the port forwarding to work until I updated the firmware. The unit came with v2.01, but the website had 2.10 available for download.

One thing I like about DLink's port forwarding (compared with the Linksys) is that you can map a public port to a private port. For instance, I can run a web server on my local home machine (port 80), but then expose it to the internet on port 1234. The Linksys was only "open port 80" and it made it a direct passthrough. DLink allows you to say "open port 1234 on the WAN and pass it to port 80 on the LAN". Pretty cool.
