CAPWIN and Wireless Data
The Capitol Wireless Integration Network ( CAPWIN ) project is partnership between the State of Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia to develop an integrated transportation and criminal justice information wireless network. The award has been made to IBM. There's some good stuff happening with this. We are very interested in how things turn out with this project because we are in the process of developing a wireless data network for the State of Utah.
Some people feel that the CapWIN project has the makings of a national standard for wireless integration and interoperability between existing legacy systems, CAD and other data bases Federal & local. According to people from CapWIN,
"The [US] Department of Transportation considers CapWIN one of nine projects with the most promise for filling information gaps on the benefits and costs of emerging and existing ITS technologies"
