Dakota Summer

Summer is officially here and with it is my seasonal Tourette Syndrome.  If I stand outside trying to have a conversation for any length of time I invariably jerk my head or wave my hands in an attempt to dissuade mosquitoes and other insects from using my body for food, rest, or shelter.  I remember missionaries in Africa complaining about flies but I can never remember doing the amount of flailing that I do now when I was in Nairobi.  Or Kampala, for that matter. Of course, heaven forbid that Africa not be equated with insects.  Or disease - apparently there is a new sickness ( I never heard of even though I lived a mere hour and a half from the Rift Valley) here to terrorize the Midwest from Africa.  Goodbye West Nile (Uganda), hello Rift Valley Fever (Kenya). I wonder what people would think if I told them the mosquitos biting me are going to carry the parasitic mosquitoes from my two incidences with malaria in (the jungles and underbrush!) Africa.
