Happy Halloween! It's the first time in 4 or 5 years that I'm not going to be in costume. I did costume up as Groucho a couple of months ago for a friend's 50th birthday party--a celebrity murder mystery evening.

But my daughter's ready and that's what counts. Should be fun.

Impermanence. Had a good conversation with an old friend yesterday about how we both have lately been preferring transitory, impermanent media for expression. There's something about an emotional freedom from the completion or finality of a solid object--painting, sculpture, hologram, book, or magazine. I just like it that I can go back and change it. . Like if you came back to re-read this posting, I might have changed something in the interim. OK, not likely as we're mostly too busy to do stuff like that, but it's the fact that it could happen that matters.

It's an evolution of what I liked about editing a magazine in the 80s: You work really hard to get it as good as it can be each month, but if you're not satisfied, you can fix it for the next issue.

Of course, that's just how I feel right now. Given the impermanence of ideas, it could all be different tomorrow.
