Subscriber shadows
Richard MacManus points out that my subscriber base grew by one quarter during the last three months.
The funny thing is, I didn't push out a single post on this weblog in the
last three months! This tells me there is a significant number of
people who do read stuff that is not fresh off the press. I find this
encouraging, as I have lots of writing over in the archives that is still worth reading.
Speaking of subscribers, this Bloglines subscriber tracking feature
is quite interesting because it shows the outline of the lurkers'
aggregate shadow. Surprisingly, I found out that 11 people track my inbound links feed, but no one other than me tracks the feed of comments to my weblog (which is generally more interesting, if you ask me).
The more observant among my readers noticed that I didn't go completely
silent during my blog hiatus. Indeed, I couldn't help but feed my musiclog (some terrific finds recently! Here, have a helping of The Alps and the Klezmatics!) and linklog, and sprinkle comments here and there. But I'm back on the blog now, and I feel great!

SoSoPedia: Link Rank
The idea of building a kind of hyperlinked mini-encyclopedia of social
software has been running through my head for a while. The
cybernetics-flavored Disenchanted dictionary and Principia Cybernetica
have always been an inspiration, and I sense a need for something
similar describing what's happening in the specific, rapidly-evolving
space of social software.
I've been working alone on this so far, but at some point I'll probably
try to get collaborators to help building this, in some kind of
semi-public wiki.
It's very very bare-bones so far, but here's where I took my first stab: Link Rank. Let me know what you think.
Oh, almost forgot! I'm back. :-) Thanks to all who encouraged me to return!
