A community-edited guide to kuro5hin.org
kuro5hin ("Technology and Culture, from the Trenches") ranks among the most popular community weblogs. The community is growing at an impressive pace and features quality articles and discussion. People post articles to a moderation queue, where users vote on whether the site should run the articles. Articles that pass a certain threshold are published and subsequently discussed. The site is appreciated enough that the recent fundraising drive to keep the site running generated almost $40,000.
As is the case in many communities, the resources that are available to help newcomers get oriented aren't what one might hope them to be. I've proposed and set up a publicly editable website in order to improve on that situation. The idea is that this kind of guide is best (and more easily) written collectively rather than by, say, the site founder alone.
I introduced the guide in a K5 story which you can find here along with the ensuing discussion.
Here's the one month follow-up story.
