"Record Makers" by Simon Parker (Guardian Unlimited) on a simple piece of computer software that is helping communities create and archive their shared histories. This inspiring story is about a company developed from one man's initiative to document and preserve local history. So "community archiving" sources will eventually be another kind of electronic record archivists will need to appraise for long-term preservation. And the Canadian government, according to this story, bought the software for installation in museums around Canada.

MSN Messenger Connect for Enterprises will add security, archiving and other message-management features sought by companies that are beginning to warm to the idea of allowing employees to conduct business over instant messaging (IM) networks.
