Triangulation

Simon Phipps summarizes why the increase in data collection is bigger than it looks. I'm not sure I agree with his paradoxical answer, but I'm also hopeful.

This is important to follow up on. May make sense as a way to think about RFID feeds, for example. The Algebra of RSS Feeds (LinuxWorld)

Lessig's rant about the lack of wireless at WSIS includes a mention that in spite of the lack of decent Internet access, they somehow had the resources to give everyone an RFID-enabled badge and monitor them through the conference.

This is such as stupid misuse of technology. Did these people think they were being cool? Why take one of the most obviously unattractive uses of a technology and force it on everyone? I doubt that people at battery conferences put a good strong on in your badge and shock you every once in awhile, but that's effectively what these people have done. Stupid, stupid, stupid. Link

Articles by Nova Spivack to follow up on. The ideas of microcontent, in particular, are relevent to the emergence of RFID as a new infrastructure.

The power of Walmart - an article in Fast Comany. For RFID it's interesting to see Walmart use this power to push the technology/process envelope. Not many dominant companies would be taking this step.... Link

Good smart dust article. This stuff is highly related to RFID, and I believe the two will merge in interesting ways. It's clear that RFTags are going to become the cheapest way to move data 3 feet wirelessly, so this is a great fit. Link (thanks to BoingBoing.

Fortune covers what should be interesting meetings in Arkansas next week. Walmart, as usual, has the upper hand. We're going as technology vendors - you can pretty much be guaranteed that there's going to be some companies looking for help with whatever comes down. Link

At ConnecTerra we're doing lots of work in RFID. It's a wild space right now, with too much hype, but with real promise. This blog will gather notes and thoughts on the space as it evolves.
