Matt And Libby Are Now A Married Couple

Well Matt and Libby are now a married couple. They've even been on their honeymoon and returned.

Their ceremony was beautiful. I've never attended a Jewish wedding ceremony before. I was struck by the symbolism and the deep respect for tradition. Also I was struck by how many things involved in the ceremony were made by Matt and Libby. Other couples just content themselves to write their own vows. Matt and Libby made their canopy and they made a wonder marriage contract too. I'm such a slacker compared to such ambitious people.

Matt and Libby's Wedding Website

I see that Matt's fiance Libby has put up a webpage about their upcoming wedding. I'm very happy for both of them; they're two of the nicer folks that I know and I hope that they'll enjoy many years of happiness together. Now if only Torrin or his fiance Nicole would put up a website about their wedding I'd be linking to them too.

Annual Family Reunion

Well, we had our family reunion tonight at the home of my cousin, Angela and her husband Jimmy. They have a gorgeous home and it's quite nice of them to host the party this year. It's great to see all the family. Both of my brothers' sons (who I never get to see as much as I would like) are getting big. Jeremy, the older one, is a senior in high school now. Damn, time flies. It's nice to see him developing into a nice young man.

Old Friends...

Well, I had a pleasant surprise yesterday. An old friend of mine, Dan, told me that another old friend of mine, Jeff, is now working at Visteon next to yet another old friend of mine, Keith. I hadn't seen or spoken with Jeff in probably five years so this did come as a pleasant surprise.

So I showed Matt and Tom (two of my colleagues) that website that I mentioned yesterday. They were laughing so hard at some points there were tears streaming down their faces.

Also at lunch today we went to the last "Eat to the Beat", an excellent summer lunchtime music program sponsored by the Southfield City Centre board. I mean the last one for this year. The band playing, "Bomb Squad" was pretty good. They did a lot of 70's soul tunes (one of my favorite genres of music) so I was loving every minute of it. I wish they had a website I could point you at but they don't. 'Tis a pity; I'd like to know where they're playing again. They are good.

BBQ With Friends

The days are getting shorter. Soon fall will be here and the weather will turn colder. But we've got a little bit of summer left and I intend to enjoy it as much as possible.

Sharon and I have been invited to a BBQ on the Sunday of Labor Day weekend with two good friends of ours, Susan and Mike. Susan's a sweetheart; I couldn't have picked a nicer human being for Sharon to be best friends with if I had tried. And her husband Mike strikes me as an artsy kind of guy like me. I think he's a bit less of a dabbler than I am. In fact, a lot less of a dabbler--he's got chops when he plays his guitar that would make a professional guitarist envious.

Oh yes, I'm a dabbler. I've dipped my toe into many artistic ponds and only dove into a few of them. I find that writing is fun. Being done with writing is even more fun. I've never been much for the visual arts (drawing, sculpting etc.) Even with the performing arts I tend to have a strong bias to verbal things. I love well-written dialog.

Another Nice Lady That I'm Lucky Enough To Be Acquainted With

Matt's fiance is Libby. Libby is a graphic artist. I've always admired folks who have artistic talent since I can't draw a straight line with a ruler. Not only is she a great graphic artist (as you can see for yourself here) but she's also a heck of a nice lady too. And she plays a pretty mean game of bocce too.

Code Meets Music

My colleague Tom was kind enough to share this rather interesting link with me. It's really interesting to hear about research into using a programmer's other senses to aid in their work. One of my other colleagues, Joel, shared a very witty observation about this. He suggested that perhaps the musical output could be hooked to a Digiscents device so that not only would bad code play bad music it would also smell like garbage.

Wedding Bells Are Going to Ring

I have two good friends that are both going to be getting married. Having taken the plunge myself (just about 4 years ago, hurray!) I think these guys will be real happy in what they're doing. I know at least one of the ladies in question and I suspect that my buddy and her will be very happy together.

Of course, both of these buddies are computer nerds like me. Even though they are both computer nerds neither one of them is as "nerdy" as am I. I do believe it does take a special sort of woman to appreciate the male nerd. Certainly the kind of woman who can tolerate spontaneous recitation of Monty Python at any time of the day or night.
