Rodger Productions, that fine theatrical production company, has set up an e-mail notification list. If you ever get a hankering for some good food and a fun show, check them. They are entertaining and inexpensive; what more could one want?

Don't Drink That Water--Have A Beer With a Friend Instead!
So the other night after our performance of Don't Drink the Water, I got to sit around and gab with Vicki and her husband Joe and Lauren and her boyfriend Jim. Four fine human beings. Lauren, Vicki and I used to all do plays together. I hadn't realized how much I missed Vicki's sense of humor. And I had forgotten how nice it is just to sit around and gab. Of course, all we talked about were "the old days". I definitely intend to try to see all of them a bit more often than I have been lately so that we'll have some new memories to talk about. I only wish that Mark could have joined us. Mark also used to do shows with us.
I'm also looking at the script of The Good Doctor, a comedy by Neil Simon. I had forgotten how funny the script really is. It's Simon's take on Chekov. I'm not deeply familiar with Chekov but I doubt that it's anywhere near as funny as Neil Simon doing Chekov is.

"Don't Drink the Water" Bows
Well, in less than a week, Don't Drink the Water hits the boards. This after weeks of rehearsal. It's good to get it going. There is no feeling in the world like that feeling one gets when an audience is laughing.
I think my French accent is cheesy (and I've told the director that too). He says don't worry too much about the accent because there are about four different accents in it already and none of them are real good. I'm playing a French chef. "How very original," I hear some people thinking to themselves. Not my choice precisely...I didn't want to do any accent.

The Accent Goes Here
So I've been working on the part of the chef in Don't Drink the Water. My fellow actors are a great bunch of folks to work with and I'm not just saying that because they may accidentally stumble across my website either! ;-) The director wants me to do the part with an Italian accent. I am no good at accents. The other actors were trying to encourage me the other night at rehearsal. Who knows...maybe with some time and practice I might just be able to improve to a passable Italian accent. Or at least one that my relatives won't find totally offensive.

Too Much to Do, Too Little Time
Tuesday night I had a rehearsal for Don't Drink the Water. Last night I had another rehearsal for that show. Tonight I've got another meeting. I'm so lucky to have a wife who's so understanding of my desire for social interaction but I'm starting to get tired of all these engagements.
I have to really be careful to pace myself a bit and not overcommit myself. I have a bad habit of doing that.

Yesterday I decided to rejoin Stagecrafters. Stagecrafters is a community theatre group in Royal Oak, Michigan. I was a member of this group for about 5 or 6 years in the first half of the 1990's. It doesn't seem that long ago but I guess it has been close to 6 or 7 years since I let my membership go. At the point when I let my membership go, I was feeling greatly worn out from all the volunteering I had done over there. I'm hoping that this time I can find a happy medium between never seeing the folks that I like to see at the theatre and spending far too much of my free time there.
