Online Library Instruction: Create a Virtual Search

Learn to create more interactive online environments for teaching information literacy skills. In this workshop you'll use Flash MX to create an online database search demonstration. The demonstration will allow students to move at their own pace, and will require them to type searches correctly before they can move on to the the next step. CLS to offer Digital Project Management course:

Class Description:
This workshop is for decision makers and staff who are charged with considering a plunge into local digital conversion of collections. It will provide a basic overview of the complex, interconnected tasks and processes involved in creating digital resources -- from selection, funding, and staffing, through metadata creation, web site development, and archiving. Outsourcing versus in-house production will be compared. We'll survey features of the important building blocks for digital resources, including scanning techniques, ocr, and assets management, but we won't delve deeply into technical details or provide hands-on demonstrations. We will review current standards and best practices, and consider criteria for sustainable, usable digital resources. Experience with scanning equipment or digital cameras is helpful but not required.

Time: 01:00 PM - 04:00 PM

Date: Thursday May 15, 2003

Fee: $80.00

You will learn about cutting edge technologies as well as more modestly priced, but high impact, solutions to library space problems related to creating flexible and dynamic learning spaces.
