eBay Censors CD-Rs.

Security Alert: eBay Prevents Musician from Selling Own CD-Rs "George Ziemann, an independent musician, made an album with his band and like many small operators, he then produced copies of the the album on CD-R and attempted to sell them on the Web. He listed copies on his own Web page, on MP3.COM, on garageband.com, and on eBay. All was going well... until eBay abruptly began to de-list the auctions. Ziemann and his band were the authors, engineers, producers, and publishers of... [The Shifted Librarian]

Jenny at the Shifted Librarian comments on the continuing music copyright struggle with the RIAA.  She makes a number of good points on how their actions threaten libraries circulation of digital music.

Project RoMEO:

The RoMEO Project (Rights MEtadata for Open archiving), funded by the Joint Information Systems Committee until July 2003, is studying the rights issues involved in self-archiving by academics in the United Kindgom.  Much of the research is being done at Loughborough University.

ProSUA, Kevin Mark's blog, has lots of tips on how to advocate for copyright issues that affect libraries.

Cartoon Database:

"Universal Launches Searchable Database. Universal Press Syndicate launched a Web site that enables newsletter editors, book publishers, the general public, and others to search for comics and editorial cartoons." [Editor & Publisher - Daily Headlines]

This cartoon database allows one to search and buy syndicated cartoons to enliven your content and presentations.  What's really nice is that if the featured toon is for a presentation they ask whether you are a for-profit or not- for-profit institution and price the toon accordingly.

Lawrence Lessig recently wrote a book on copyright entitled The Future of Ideas: The Fate of the Commons in a Connected World.   He is also highly involved in the Creative Commons project, which allows content creators to identify their works with the varying levels of copyright protection in such a way that makes them easily sharable by others.
