For those looking for a simple guide to computers, try The Secret Guide to Computers. The 28th ed. (2002), which is available as an ebook on the web, has a wealth of information on personal computers. It, however, does not cover advanced topics like servers or handhelds.

CLS is honored to have Saul Amdursky, Director of the Kalamazoo Public Library (KPL), address the library community. Under Mr. Amdursky’s leadership, the Kalamazoo Public Library received the LJ Gale Library of the Year 2002 Award for its ability to understand its mission and clientele and to respond in innovative ways, such as KPL’s use of digital audio books. Join us in listening to Saul Amdursky discuss some of KPL’s most innovative programs and practices – programs and practices that can benefit all types of libraries. There will be time for group discussion at the end of the presentation.

We'll see more news items like the one above and this one that was in Wired a few weeks ago about the West Des Moines campus of the Des Moines Area Community College move to a paperless campus and library. Looks like a trend to watch.
