Web services goals years away or unattainable, report says

WHILE WEB SERVICES are proving their value for early adopters in integrating heterogeneous systems, the next phase of Web services -- which is to use them to deliver software as services -- is at least a decade away or perhaps unattainable, according to a report released this week by market analysis firm IDC.

While the full article discusses Web Services from a wholistic perspective, it doesn't deal with the personal use of web services in such tools as Radio.

It's our position that:

The exploitation of Web Services in Collaboration tools & platforms will vastly improve the levels of Collaboration & knowledge sharing available for all of us.

The CoP on Effective Collaboration sponsored by Xceler8 Concepts attempts to get issues like this on the table.

One of the comments at the very end of the article turns the use of Web Services for dynamic business relationship building - the purchase of fuel by an airline for example - into a challenge by implying that relationships can't be built dynamically in a Web Services world.

We dealt with this issue, dealing with relationships & trust - (from the comments by & quotes from a BEASytems offical John Kiger, Director of Web Services Marketing at BEA Systems) -  in a previous posting on Collaboration & the ability to GET THE BIG PICTURE (How is Collaboration related to GETTING THE BIG PICTURE ???

Well, suffice it to say that it could happen - but only with the proper backgrounding being able to be accomplished.

Come to the CoP on Effective Collaboration to make YOUR views known on how YOU & your organization would like this to happen - maybe by effective ranking, rating & verification services to be made available to all of us in a dynamic manner.

After all, how do we accomplish this today - by effective "referral" systems that we all look to in today's business climates. Networks of contacts & effective ways to leverage other peoples knowledge of & feelings abou these contacts so that they can then become part of our OWN "network", and therefore then become members of our own trusted advisor network..

From a people-to-people Collaboration perspective, we need to figure out how to make this work in order to create what Xceler8 Concpets positions as "The New Collaborative Economy", fueled by Collaborative Effectiveness, the subject of our CoP.

Stay tuned & contribute your thoughts & opinions on our CoP.
