recommended os x software
I love Panther and Expose and I can't wait for Tiger (both OS X and
Java). Here's the other software I use on the G5 and PowerBook...
- I'm happy with Mac.Mail for email
- CodeTek virtual desktop 3 with full expose support; why settle for 17 inches when you can have 170 :)
- my favourite IRC client is X-ChatAqua which supports spell checking & tabbed rooms etc
- for IM I use Adium which is neat, with tabbed windows and support for Yahoo/AOL etc.
- iChat is great with an iSight, though if talking with non-Maccers, try Skype.
- for terminal stuff iTerm
rocks. Classic 3 button style cut-n-paste plus tabbed shells &
bookmarks (I now can't live without tabbed shells) along with nice
transparent backgrounds for wacky shell eye candy
- I used to use Eclipse, but switched to IDEA some time ago and absolutely love it.
- NetNewsWire for news aggregator & news reading
- I was hooked on OmniOutliner for doing todo lists and stuff; though I like the look of Tinderbox & keep meaning to try moving. Though recently I've moved to iWork and use Pages a lot - its lovely. Did I say iWork rocks? Try it, its lovely. No more Word for me...
- MenuMeters for neat monitors of CPU, disk, network etc on the menu bar (I'm quite fond of the graph view for CPU usage)
- Poisoned for P2P content sharing
- VoodooPad is cool, a WYSIWYG editor for wiki-ish things; if only it worked natively with moinmoin
- Clutter is just so cool,
