Tonight, I listened to Bruce Schneier's keynote address entitled, "Fixing Network Security by Hacking the Business Climate", from the O'Reilly Emerging Technology conference hosted in May, 2002.

In his address, Bruce makes the excellent observation that increased complexity of software results in a decreased level of security. I could not agree more. He also states that technology will not "solve" the security problems we face today; rather, security is fundamentally a social issue that requires everyone's involvement (from the clueless CTO to the lowly junior programmer).

Great stuff.

For those of you who don't know, I recently moved to Chicago from Melbourne (Australia) to join Keith Franklin and friends at Empowered Software Solutions. I've been living in the US for approximately four weeks and find myself settling in quite nicely.

I think I'm going to like living here.
