Web services - a brothel model
Recently, the InfoWorld (June 9, 2003) described web services as a new programming model. Is this really a new model? I do not believe so. In web service orchestration, services are offerred via published directories, users look up these, call up the services and pay for them (may be before using the service). The service is available to any user and is reusable. Service providers must ensure that the services would not harm the user and likewise user data cannot penetrate the security veil of the service provider.
Now, this model sounds very familiar. It is a brothel service. Brothels provide services for a fee. Services are published so that users may find them. Safe use of services is a requirement. Sevices are reusable. The brothel model has existed for a very long time in the human society!
