Venture funding
Ever since I failed to raise venture funding for my projects, I have wondered what qualifies you to be a recipient of venture funds? I think I may have found an answer. This story, published in Washington Post (Jan. 1, 2004), perhaps tells it quite well. Blue Water Capital in McLean, Virginia has stepped forward and decided to open their eyes and minds wide! They have "found" that immigrants, especially the non-white ones, may be a group worth pursuing. Perhaps the success of the West Coast VCs who have become color blind (perhaps color aware) suggested that there is money to be made.
Blue Water Capital is planning on reaching out to the immigrant and minority entrepreneurs of East Coast. What about the great white middle? This includes Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South and North Dakota, Michigan, Wisconsis, Indiana, etc. What about Iowa?
When it comes to ideas and innovations, the State of Iowa and Iowa State University surely believes that ideas and innovations can only come from a few chosen fileds of science and engineering. If the proposals come from any other areas, say business or social sciences, then it is discarded and discouraged! I believe it is the ISU tradition!
