I finally got a Linux box set up on something a little more reliable
than my home cable modem and I've really enjoyed having it to muck
around with in my free time. It's been fun getting back into the
sysadmin side of things and have root privileges on a box so you can go
stomping around and installing stuff on a whim.
I've also begun using X over ssh again. The speed pickup in ssh XWindow sessions is amazing since the last time I used it (about 3 years ago). I also have to give huge ups to the KDE team...their desktop software has come a long way since the last time I used it. The menu transparency feature is very MacOSX-like.
I'm a total sucker for eye-candy and they deliver it in spades. The best part is that it doesn't seem to slow things down all that much which is just a bonus.
