It makes me feel like writing. What's that RiverDogs - what makes you feel like writing? Calexico and their latest album - Garden Ruin, that's what. That may be new music, but I am still on my theme of the old versus the new, and what it is about the old that makes me hold on. Old music is a given. What else? When I look around the garage I see a lot of the old. Old chevy, old bmw, old slide projector, old stereo. But all those old things are still serviing useful purposes. Good deal, hang on. I know this theme is going to continue for a while.

Future plans: we are driving with Jeri, Mike, Boots and David to the Leander HS game tonight in NE San Antonio. It's the Lions and Converse Judson, a perennial powerhouse. This promises to be a great early season test and the winner is making a statement that will echo through central Texas. Then tomorrow we are going to the UT game against N. Texas. The outcome is not in doubt even though the QB has not played one second of college football. Will get a glimpse of the future tomorrow. The future will be great (that is a predicition).

The new Bob Dylan album Modern Times should arrive from Amazon today, A review of that effort will follow in the next few days. I have read some reviews and people are saying good things about the old master.

Last weekend we spent some time in area thrift shops and I found several books that are now part of my library. We also dropped into a pawn shop and I grabbed two CDs and two movies for the library. Great places to shop. One of the stops was at the Blast From the Past shop on Burnet Rd. If you have never been there, you are missing one of the greatest messy stores in the world. There are albums (music) and posters galore from the early Austin glory days. A year or two ago we bought a Guy Jukes handbill of the New Riders of the Purple Sage show at the Armadillo World Headquarters. It is framed and hanging in Kathy's office. The lady who runs the place is looking for a Ry Cooder poster for me. (I'm a huge Ry Cooder fan, if you didn't know.)

Hey - the clock on the status bar tells me it is time to roll onto the rest of the day. Damn, and I was just starting to enjoy this conversation. RiverDogs out for now.
