Amendment One My gut feel is that Amendment One, which by our NC Constitution must be passed by the voters of our state, is only slightly more understood by the general public than the FTAA. In a nutshell, this amendment allows counties, cities and towns in our State the power to take on public debt without having to go through the cumbersome process of asking citizens for their permission each time. Voters are very unreliable people and though usually a majority of them can be enticed into voting themselves a tax increase, they cannot always be trusted to so. Amendment One fixes this roadblock to progress and development. If passed Amendment One gives any ruling government authority the power to take on debt secured by projected future revenue --- without voter approval. What happens in those rare occassions though when government bodies make poor projections? Take a guess there, then remember to vote NO on Amendment One. 9:17:33 PM |
