Bill Davidson Walk-A-Thon David Hoggard must have driven by General Greene Elementary real slow this morning because he nailed the head count. I attribute his missing me in his roll-call to the fact that I was working undercover in my blue jeans rather than my standard MIB JBS outfit. I had my camera on the car seat ready for photo ops but got too distracted with the opportunity to review Mr. Davidson's personnel file, which he just happened to have handy for the curious. I think I can speak with some authority as to recognizing a good conspiracy when I see one. Unfortunately, for those desirous of one in Mr. Davidson's employment history I have to disappoint here. The names, dates and text in the documents all looked rather bland. For disclaimer purposes I must admit the copied material all appeared to have been done on a dreaded word processor, but my read is this: A 12 year veteran of the school system, who like many teachers had a second source of income, is presented with an opportunity to go full time on his profitable second occupation as a building sub-contractor. He wrestles with the decision over the Christmas/holiday break. Torn on what to do, he returns from break still ambivalent about the matter and then a few days later takes the plunge and gives his required 30 day notice to the school system on January 9th. The school system paperwork acknowledges the resignation with a date stamped receipt on the same day. The follow-up paper work to close things out looks like standard parting of the ways fare. For the die-hard conspiracy theorists here is the main problem you have to overcome: If there was some dark secret in Mr. Davidson's employment history, even our school system likely has the sense to bring things to a close BEFORE the start of the New Year. This is easier on the students and easier for tax and accounting purposes. Yes, in some employment cases accommodations are made to allow a person to start a new year in order to gain accrued vacation and sick pay. This argument goes nowhere however, as Mr. Davidson also mentioned that, while he tried to work out a deal to work a few weeks longer in order to pick up pay for his accrued sick days, he was not able to...One of the details he did not consider when tendering his resignation. Bottom line: the records I saw first hand do not support the implied allegations that the school system somehow pushed Mr. Davidson out of a job. Sidebar: The call for a huge turnout this morning at 9:00am was made via e-mail at 8:43 pm last night. Most people getting that message on-line after 9:00pm were certainly not predisposed to rolling out of bed on a Saturday morning in time for a 9:00am Walk-a-thon. If there is a local candidate that can turn out more than his wife and kids and a close friend/activist or two for something like this, we all need to learn his secret. 3:23:09 PM |
