BREECH OF CONTRACT AND OF FREE SPEECH: "Ethics" Greensboro College Style...

As you may know, Faith In Focus Ministries has been publicizing our November 4 fall lecture, and our guest speaker, Ms. Joanne Highley of LIFE Ministries, New York.  Ms. Joanne Highly is a respected Christian speaker, a former lesbian, who has appeared on such broadcasts as the 700 Club, the Sally Jessy Raphael Show, among others.  Faith In Focus Ministries has been privileged to bring many gifted and godly speakers to Piedmont, NC, and Ms. Highley is no exception. 

Faith In Focus had agreed to lease a facility at Greensboro College, and this centralized location was to be the place where Ms. Highley would share her lecture on homosexuality and the Christian world view.  Faith In Focus Ministries had agreed to the rental terms and costs, and had the facility under contract for the date of our event.  The November 4, 7:00 PM lecture is free, open to the public, and there will be no admission charged.  The lecture was available to the Greensboro College students, as well as the community. 

Faith In Focus has been informed that we will not be able to have our event at the Greensboro College facility.  Even though the college's website promises, "an academic environment that welcomes conflicting points of view," and even though Faith In Focus Ministries, Inc. had leased the auditorium for the evening of November 4, some people apparently objected to having a Christian speaker on this Methodist campus.  As

The fall academic focus for Greensboro College is "ethics," and Ms. Highley was addressing an issue relevant to sexual ethics.  Ironically, though the college's focus is ethics, Faith In Focus has been notified that the leasing agreement for the auditorium will not be honored. 

So this e-mail is to notify the public that the lecture will be held at Caldwell Academy, 2900 Horse Pen Creek Rd., Greensboro, NC, 27410.  (Directrions to Caldwell Academy- Take Bryan Blvd. to the Guilford College / New Garden Road exit.  Horsepen Creek Road is beside Bryan Blvd; Turn onto Horsepen Creek Rd. (near St. Paul Catholic Church).  Follow Horsepen Creek Road for approximately 1.5 miles, Caldwell Academy is on the left).  If further directions are needed, you may call Caldwell Academy, at 336-665-1161.

I encourage citizens to come and hear an articulate speaker, Ms. Joanne Highley, as she brings an informed presentation on a timely subject. 

It is unfortunate that an historically Methodist school must capitulate to the politically correct spirit of the times, and thereby prohibit the Christian world view from being a part of the academic dialogue.  I was told that the "exclusivist views" of Faith In Focus and of our guest, Ms. Highley, were considered in the college's decision to renig on the agreement for our leasing of the auditorium.  I pointed out that it was not possible for the faculty and/or students to know what the content of our program would be a priori; in other words, how may one know the content of our program, before having heard the program?  Also, I pointed out that Faith In Focus' doctrinal positons were well in line with historic Christian orthodoxy;  If fidelity to the Bible means "exlcusivism," than neither John nor Charles Wesley (the founders of Methodism) could speak at this historically Methodist college.  But ideological considerations aside, the administration of Greensboro College has decided that it is in the best interest of all parties that a lecture on homosexuality from a Christian point of view not be conducted on their campus.   

Please take note of the enclosed information; again the Faith In Focus November 4 lecture is ON, but it will NOT be on the campus of Greensboro College, as previously publicized.  It will be held at Caldwell Academy.
