Jim Capo - Candidatecapoheadshot2004

2004 Guilford County Commissioner - District 7

Jim Capo, age 44, is a graduate of the University of Michigan College of Engineering.  In 1987, with two partners he formed a small manufacturing company in Michigan producing molded plastic parts for the automotive industry.  In 1998 the company Team One Plastics, Inc expanded with a second facility, which brought his family and 50 jobs (without any incentives or government involvement) to Greensboro, North Carolina.  To support customer minority supplier development programs, in 2002, he was instrumental in helping the Greensboro operation convert to a Minority Certified business status as Team Emergent, LLC.  Also in 2002, running as a Libertarian, he conducted a campaign for the North Carolina Senate in District 26, losing in November to Republican Phil Berger.  In 2003 he negotiated the sale of his stake in Team One Plastics in order to take a full time position as the State Coordinator for The John Birch Society, which he has been a member of since 1993.

The slogan for Jim Capo’s 2004 campaign for Guilford County Commissioner in District 7 is:

"Better Government...for Better Cost."

In light of the many difficult challenges being faced and met by the citizens and businesses of our area, I believe that to support our community the government of Guilford County must likewise work to stay competitive by providing “more for less.”   In any organization this is never an easy task, but it is essential for success. With the right leadership and commitment from the Guilford County Board of Commissioners to truly listen to the many suggestions across all departments to improve and streamline processes in our county government, "better government...for better cost" will be more than a catchy campaign slogan, it can be the future of Guilford County.

10-13-04 Update: Let me mention that the winner in District 7 will likely become the swing vote in a board evenly divided 5-5 between Democrats and Republicans.  What does this mean.  It means that someone running outside the established systems of influence on the board could end up shifting the balance of power in Guilford County back to citizens, parents and taxpayers.  Now there's an idea.
