Martin Arnold in a Jan. 30 New York Times piece about the topsy-turvy world of book publishing mergers concludes with this oh-too-true insight:
"In the end in these situations, writing remains the most lonely of crafts, monastic, and regardless of how many reassuring calls come in, the author must produce content that pleases the new publisher or editor. The first chapter is always anxiety."
