A picture named invaders.gifInvaders. It's still much too hot to blog anything decent today, apart from maybe stealing fans off It&W's website and having a good discussion about it. So have a go at The Ultimate Space Invaders Shrine with the online game. Me, I have to rest.

A picture named ventilenti.gifA breeze! Thank Goodness. Fan shamelessly stolen from IT&W. But cartoonists are allowed to nick fans, according to majo.

A picture named captscarlet1.jpgSpectrum is Green. Good old Gerry Anderson. Apparently he's very busy producing a CGI version of his old Captain Scarlet series. What I've seen so far looks very promising indeed; the production company is The Moving Picture Company in London's Wardour Street. Where else of course?

A picture named robbie.gifSome thoughts about the job. There is no justice in this world. As my regular readers are well aware, I work in advertising. I'm an art director. Yes, I confess: I was responsible for some of the bright crap that might have been harassing you in magazines and on television. But something just struck me -

When I was an art director on the WASA crispbread account, I always had free crispbread.

When I worked for Reemtsma cigarettes, I always had loads of free cigarettes.

Colgate Palmolive: free toothpaste and household cleaners.

I always got freebies; Sunkist, Fish fingers, Lipton tea...shame I never worked on a whisky account.

At present I mostly work in healthcare advertising. Seems to be the only niche where you can still get a job these days.

Now am I getting a revolutionary new cancer treatment for free? Am I getting pills to treat Parkinson's Disease? Free HRT patches? Free arthritis drugs? Nope. I am annoyed.

There is no justice in this world.

A picture named klown5.jpgKiller Klowns from Outer Space. Imagine you witness the landing of a UFO here on Earth. So far so good, don't worry. Almost everybody witnesses UFO landings; that's perfectly alright. But imagine the UFO looks like a circus tent. And the aliens look like ... clowns? Now how are you going to explain that to the police when you report your sighting?

Killer Klowns is one of the funniest SF movies I've ever seen. Here's the website. Soundtrack (Real Player) is by The Dickies, who provided us with lyrical and intellectual songs like 'Stukas over Disneyland'. Found this gem at linkfilter

A picture named sigsmly.gifThe Original Smiley Face. Hrmph. Somebody once told me it was Milton Glaser who invented the Smiley. Not true. In fact it was Harvey Ball, a designer from Worcester, MA, who created the very first Smiley design for a local client. Find out everything about the smiley at the World Smile Foundation.

However, Milton is still one of the best around - famous for his "I love NY" button designs and all sorts of other great stuff. Art is Work.

A picture named roy.jpgDeconstructing Roy Lichtenstein. Now this is great. Here's a website showing the original comic strip frames Roy Lichtenstein based his paintings on. They've slightly screwed up though - page 1 shows the origins of some Warhol paintings, and not Lichtenstein. But anyway, it's a great website. And a big thanks to Hans Presto, who supplied me with the link via Email.
