The Happy Painter. An article about Bob Ross - and a rant about him.Little bit of black, a little bit of blue.. some criss-cross strokes, or little x's, whatever you want to call them. Whatever. There you go. I saw him last night on the telly again - I just had to blog him this time.

Those were the times. Gene Gable writes about waxing machines, rapidographs and scalpels. More or less via Gordon Coale, who linked to this article. Before the cool computers of desktop publishing was the hot heat of wax and the sharp steel of Xacto knives. Manual page composition made men of young lads like Gene Gable. In this installment: Gene ponders the lost art of paste-up, or the waning of waxing.

The Navy Painter. I just love the blogosphere. Gordon Coale, who also runs an excellent weblog, left the following comment regarding my 'Submarines in art' entry:...the image you used was drawn by my grandfather, Griffith Baily Coale. He was instrumental in starting the Navy's combat artist program. I have a site on him that has examples of his other work for the Navy as well as his amazing writings about his experiences and travels while in the Navy. The website is fascinating - excerpts from diaries, books and paintings. Fab.
