Spiegel Online and German Grammar. Who are those selfmade journalists, that are now writing for what once used to be Germany's top notch news magazine?

Since 1995 synagogues that were destroyed by the Nazis in 1938 have been reconstructed on the computer in the Department CAD in Architecture at the Technical University of Darmstadt. The project stems from a student initiative in 1994, a year in which hostility towards foreigners and anti-Semitic commentaries noticeably increased. It was also the year of the arson attack on the synagogue in Lübeck.

A picture named 1592t.jpgMoving Pictures. The Origins of American Animation. Fab.

The development of early American animation is represented by this collection of 21 animated films and 2 fragments, which spans the years 1900 to 1921. The films include clay, puppet, and cut-out animation, as well as pen drawings. They point to a connection between newspaper comic strips and early animated films, as represented by Keeping Up With the Joneses, Krazy Kat, and The Katzenjammer Kids. As well as showing the development of animation, these films also reveal the social attitudes of early twentieth-century America.

A picture named bowstar.jpgModeling a Wreck. Roy Mengot has created a scale model of the Titanic wreck.

The boiler room only has about 50 parts in it since it's largely obscured. The inverted Y shaped pillars, the steam and water lines, and the collapsed uptakes to the funnels are there according to the plans, but not really visible in the model.

A picture named rp03.jpgAgain. Orion. Raumpatrouille. Blogged before, but who cares. Orion in colour. A review of the stupid movie in English is here, at The Starlight Casino.

Update. Anthony Rooney writes:
I have to say that I enjoyed what I saw. OK, there were a few problems - I would have lost the scene in the Starlight Casino with Cliff and a drunken Hasso discussing his marital problems. It's a scene that works well in the original episode because we see where it goes, but in the context of the re-edited movie it was out of place and served no purpose. I also would have lost the scene with Cliff and his nephews, as - again - it was great in the episode it came from but seemed odd here. As those are the only two nit-picks I have I am glad to have got them out of the way as I very much enjoyed the film. The 'news' items were funny but did not detract from the pace and excitement of the adventure. The characters of the Orion crew came across well in the English translation and I had to smile when Mario was talking about the very good looking 'bird' he's been pursuing ('bird' being British slang for a good looking girl - 'dolly- bird' - similar to the American 'chick').
