Cameras and Photos
I own two digital cameras the Fuji MX1700 and the Nikon CoolPix 775. I definitely think of the Nikon 775 as my main camera. It is quite compact and has enough megapixel power to take pictures that make very nice snapshots at 4x6" size. I have even had Kinko’s blow up one of the pictures I took with the Nikon 775 to 18x24" size. It wasn’t super sharp photo quality but it was good enough to hang on the wall. I like the size and robustness of the Nikon 775. I can slip it in my pocket or stuff it in a small carrying case. It is easy to take along. This is one of my primary criterias. If you don’t have the camera with you since it is a pain to carry, you won’t have pictures. Only complaints, there is no sound to tell you when it has snapped the picture. Second, the LCD could be a little bigger. The Fuji has a bigger LCD so it is easier to see the quality of you picture. The size on the Nikon, you just see you got a picture. I use a Nikon Cool Pix 950 at work. Both this camera and the 775 take amazing shots close up when put in the Close Up mode. All in all, I recommend the Nikon 775. I had several incidents with the automatic lense cap cover getting stuck on the Fuji. It had to be sent for service several times and this prompted me to purchase the Nikon 775.
Making prints from photos? I recommend Ofoto.com. They give you a great program for transferring photos from camera to the computer and you can upload the shots you want to the web, give them a CC number, and the prints show up in the mail a couple of days later. It’s great. I have also used Printroom.com. Who want to mess with printing all your own photos? Especially if you have a broadband connection, use a web based photo place. I do not know what uploading 40 pictures is like on a regular modem but on a cable or DSL it is slick.
If you are looking for a camera, I recommend researching them on-line. You can find out a lot more there than you can from someone in a camera store. You can learn a whole lot reading the reviews at Megapixel.net. Check it out.
