No More L'il Olys

Back when I was younger (much), we used to drink these little cans of beer made by Olympia Brewing in Tumwater, WA. The little Olys were easy to hide in your coat and you could shoot one down with the turn of your head, they drank fast. The beer style was kind of like a NW Coors, but more low-brow. I will always remember the brewery as I went with my Grandparents to the park there and I have taken my family many times to the same park. The Olympia tagline was "It's the Water" and I remember my Grandfather telling me the water tasted better in Tumwater, I could never tell. They also have a fish ladder and great walking grounds with lots of plants and cool water features. Now the plant is closing for brewing for good, it will be sad to look up and not see beer being made there.

Stand up for the Chip Shop!

This article deals with the perils of centralization. The EU dictates fishing policy and the family fisherman and chip shop goes under. The technology of fishing has outpaced the ocean in areas where the huge international trawlers and netters cut swaths and those are the real evil bastards in world fishing issues. A family fisher is not the problem, but we are determined as a society to kill them off. Start treating the ocean pilligers as terrorists (the Asian fleets are particulaly culpable here) and shoot them down. Force seafood to be paid for at fair price and put a premium back into it.
