First elected to Council in May of 2003, Rob has focused on policies and actions to make Alexandria a great place to live, work, and raise a family. His priorities include an emphasis on quality public schools and increased access to preschool, creating and maintaining safe, walkable, appealing neighborhoods for a mix of income levels, promoting long-term, creative solutions to local and regional transportation challenges and ensuring that Alexandria is a city of opportunity for everybody, with a strong economic base and an efficient, accountable and approachable government.

 

Community…

Rob has been an active volunteer in Alexandria since he first moved here.  Some key community commitments now include service as a board of directors member for the Campagna Center, service as an advisory board member of the Child and Family Network Center, membership in the Del Ray Artisans and membership at Hope United Church of Christ.  Rob is also a life member of the NAACP, and a member of the Alexandria Democratic Committee. Krupicka is a former vice chairman of the Alexandria Community Services Board and the Youth Services Commission.  He is also a former board member of the Alexandria Volunteer Bureau.

 

A resident of the Del Ray community, Krupicka twice served as the Del Ray Citizens Association president. He and his wife, Lisa, a journalist and author, have two daughters, two cats (Chess and Peake) and a dog (Bay).

 

… and Career

Rob currently manages his own technology and media business consulting practice. Having worked for both start-up companies and established media companies, he has over 10 years of experience in online media, marketing and business development. Rob created one of the first online banking web sites and now works with national companies and non-profits to help them develop their business and product strategies.

 

Representing and Serving Alexandria

 

Through his work on the City Council, Rob serves on the following local and regional committees:

 

Alexandria Economic Development Partnership (ADEP) is a public/private partnership between the City and the business community that assists businesses and targeted industries with information regarding the availability of sites and facilities, office and retail space, and economic and demographic statistics. Councilman Krupicka and Mayor Euille serve on this group.

 

City-Schools Committee Rob serves on the coordinating committee between the City Government and the City Schools

 

Citizen Corps Council.  In December 2003, Council approved the reconstitution of the Citizen Corps, which will be charged with assisting the public in preparing for emergencies by obtaining residents' input in the City's overall disaster response.  Rob and Councilman Gaines are the Council liaisons to this committee.

 

Aviation Policy Committee. This regional committee deals with noise mitigation strategies for Dulles and National airports.  The committee is also responsible for developing a regional approach to our airport and aviation industries.  Rob is the Chair of this committee.

Commission on Information Technology  The Commission on Information Technology reviews the City Manager's proposed information technology plan and makes recommendations to and advise the City government in the formulation and implementation of information and telecommunications policy, and promote citizen participation in the formulation of such policy.   Councilwoman Pepper and Councilman Krupicka both serve on this commission.

 

Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) is responsible for devising and distributing emergency plans, policies, and procedures for dealing with the current threats before us including appointing community facility emergency coordinators.  In short, the Committee is responsible for ensuring Alexandria is prepared for any type of disaster or emergency that may befall us.

 

Youth Policy Commission. The YPC  works on a vision for youth; examines the outcomes of youth programs and services measured against indicators of youth well-being; makes recommendations regarding City funding for youth programs and services; and coordinates responses from and among appropriate City and non-city organizations to emerging and existing issues affecting the City's youth. This Commission is also designated and authorized to act as the City's Youth Services Citizen Board.  Councilman Krupicka serves with the Mayor on this group.

 

Mayor's Work Group on Glebe Park is a committee composed of City Council, ARHA and staff to coordinate the redevelopment of the Glebe Park homes.  Councilman Krupicka serves with the Mayor on this group.

The INOVA Alexandria Hospital Task Force works with Alexandria's hospital to ensure the hospital and community are working closely to meet the community’s needs.  Councilman Paul Smedberg and Rob Krupicka work together on this task force.

 

Gang Task Force. Councilman Gaines and Krupicka are working together to evaluate and consider improvements to Alexandria's gang prevention strategy.

 

VML Transportation Policy Committee.  Councilman Krupicka serves on this State-wide committee that helps direct transportation policy for the state.

 

Start Strong Pre-K Task Force.  Councilman Krupicka was appointed by the Governor to serve on this task force.  They are working to expand access to pre-school throughout the Commonwealth.
