Inside Knowledge and Equality of Opportunity

A professor is mentoring two postdoctoral fellows.  The professor hears about a desirable job opening at another institution, and strongly believes that one of his postdoctoral candidates is significantly better suited to this particular job than the other.  How should the professor respond?

K5R says:  The professor should mention the job opportunity to both of his post-docs and let them decide if they are interested.  His letters of reference for the job can be weighted towards the suitability of the other candidate, and if asked pointedly by the hiring researcher, he may rightfully give his opinion of which one would be better suited for the job.
